About SALUTE

The University of Pittsburgh is a participating school in the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society. SALUTE is the first national honor society established for student veterans and military service members in 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher education. It was established in 2009 through the ACE/Wal-Mart Success for Veterans Grant and is headquartered out of Colorado State University.

This honor society allows Pitt to recognize our veteran students, specifically for academic achievements. Membership in SALUTE is reserved for degree-seeking, undergraduate students with at least a 3.00 GPA, and who have completed at least 12 credit hours, and for Graduate students with at least a 3.5 GPA, and who have completed 9 credit hours. Membership in SALUTE demonstrates our students' commitment to academic excellence to achieve their educational goals.

Membership

New members that join SALUTE will be invited to attend the OVS Graduation Event in April. Attending students will be presented with their SALUTE challenge coin and membership certificate.

  • The SALUTE National Honors Society is open to veteran students and students currently active in the military. Veteran applicants must have received an Honorable Discharge. • Students must complete the minimum credits requirements of 12 credits for undergraduate students and 9 credits for graduate students before induction.

  • Inducted undergraduate students will be classified in four tiers. To qualify, students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

    • Bravo 3.50 – 3.74

    • Charlie 3.25 – 3.49

  • Graduate students will be classified as SALUTE Gold Members.

    • To qualify, students must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. There are no “tier levels” for grad students.

In order to become a member of SALUTE, eligible students must submit a membership fee of $35.00 and complete a registration survey. The 2022-2023 registration survey will be available in January 2023.
